Review: Running Back by Allison Parr

Natalie Sullivan is on the verge of a breakthrough most archaeology grad students only dream of: discovering a lost city. Her research points to a farm in Ireland, but to excavate she needs permission from the new owner: the Michael O'Connor, popular NFL running back.

On TV Mike seems so charming and good-natured that Natalie figures getting his cooperation will be a breeze. So she's not prepared to deal with the arrogant—and adamantly opposed—man she meets in person. Or the way one look from him sends shivers down her spine…

Determined to kick-start her career, Natalie travels across the Atlantic and finds herself sharing an inn with Mike, who has come to Ireland in search of his roots. She tells herself her interest is strictly professional, but the more she gets to know him, the harder it is to deny her personal attraction to the sexy sports star. And when Mike confides why he refuses to allow the dig, Natalie must decide if she can follow her heart without losing sight of her dreams.

Kristine's Review:

* I received a copy of this book from Carina Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

I absolutely adored this book. It was a quick, easy read with a great plot that was filled with attraction, romance and complications. This was the first book by Allison Parr that I have had the pleasure of reading and it won't be my last.

This book is marketed as a NA book but I found that there was a maturity and depth to this story that is sometimes lacking in that Genre. Parr did an amazing job at describing the settings which made me feel like I was actually there. The story flowed nicely which made it incredibly hard to put down.

I adored the characters in Running Back. Both Natalie and Mike were likeable and interesting. It was refreshing to read about people that were driven, motivated and knew what they wanted from their career. Natalie was quirky and a little awkward and I had a few laugh out loud moments at the things that she would say or think. I also liked that there was more to Mike than a smoking hot leading man. The chemistry between the two of them was undeniable. Of course ever great story has conflict and drama and this book does not disappoint. It was interesting how the story unrolled as they dealt with their families in order to figure out their futures.

Normally my reviews are a little longer because I like to tell the good and bad. In the case of Running Back I could not come up with any negatives. Over all it was a great story that I think all NA readers will enjoy. Great job Allison Parr!
