Review: Lucky Charmed (Charmed in Texas #2) by Sharla Lovelace

Charmed, Texas, is as warm and welcoming as it sounds. But even in a small town, when it comes to love, sometimes you’ve got to take the bitter with the sweet . . .

Carmen Frost hates honey. And bees. And in her hometown of Charmed, Texas, which practically invented the stuff, that’s a problem. The good news is that the summer Honey Festival is finally over. Even better, so is the annual Lucky Hart carnival, a road show that made off with her dreams years ago—including the boy she loved. Now she’s got a divorce behind her, and a successful law career in front of her, but in a tiny town, big memories die hard. Or they don’t die at all—as Carmen discovers when she runs into an all too familiar pair of eyes—older, wiser, and just as heart-melting as ever . . .

Sully Hart has had enough of the nomad lifestyle. Travelling with his father’s carnival gave him adventures, but it cost him much more. Now he’s home to stay, contracted to create an entertainment complex in Charmed. He wants roots, a house with a yard and all the mundane pleasures that go with it. But the girl he loved has become a woman who still wants freedom. Can she still want him? It seems he and Carmen are at each other’s throats one minute—and on each other’s lips the next. Someone’s gotta give . . .

Terri's Thoughts

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.  Thank you!  The expected publication date is July 18th.

This is the second in the Charmed in Texas series by Sharla Lovelace.  As I have read both stories, I believe that this could potentially be read as a stand alone however I do not recommend this for a couple of reasons.

Reason number one.  Both stories were fun and entertaining.  You are first introduced to Carmen in A Charmed Little Lie so you would already feel comfortable with her as a character by the time you get to this book.

Reason number two.  This is the biggest reason in my opinion.  I believe I may have mentioned this same thing in my review for the first book so I will repeat it here.  The humor regarding the fact that this series takes place in a place called Charmed Texas while the majority of the townsfolks are a little, ahem a lot, less than charming is not lost on me.  The people of this town are such a complete train wreck that it is humorous.  I mean, you want to tear your eyes away but you simply can't.  I found this refreshing.  A lot of stories depict the small town full of amazing people which can become a lot of the same old same old.  This story depicts small town life as it really is, take it from someone who know, and that isn't always kind hearted people helping their neighbors while holding hands singing kumbayeyah (sorry I guessed on the spelling).  Sometimes there are people with agendas, gossips, and people laying judgement where they have no business doing so,  This my friends it what makes this series so charming!

While I have a hard time believing that true love can be determined by a three week relationship that occurred when someone is eighteen, I will not be one of those previously mentioned people passing judgement.  The truth is that Carmen and Sully had plenty of chemistry to go around and it kept the pages turning.  While I didn't see the depth to their relationship beyond the physical, it didn't matter.  I was entertained.

I can't wait to see what the charming town of Charmed Texas will bring me next!
