I was not sure how I would like this book as I had read the prequel first and without the context of the series I did not enjoy it very much. I found this book on Amazon as a free download for my kindle and decided to give it a try.
I enjoyed the concept of this read with the main character an alien who has lived on earth all of her life without knowing that she was from another planet and that she was guarding some very valuable secrets. The way the book transitioned of the main character as she began to learn about her heritage was believable and entertaining.
I did not understand her attraction to Pallin as he was odd and distant from the beginning. It was clear to the reader where the storyline was taking his character right from the beginning. I will not go in to detail so that I am not including any spoilers. On the flip side, I loved the character of Elis as the mysterious outcast. The chemistry between Raea and Elis was undeniable from the beginning even before Raea learned about his connection to her.
Overall an enjoyable read. Enough so that I have purchased the next in the series to see where it will go. I must explain how I rated this book. I have given it a four star rating however it is based on what it is. This is a YA series and I am by no means a YA. If I were to rate this against some of the great novels overall that I have read it would be a three star. I am rating this a four in the YA category against other YA novels I have read and the rating stands alone in this category.
